Naming of Boats

It was a special occasion at the club on Sunday for the naming of two boats – “The Lady Angela” and “Mary Hogg”. Whilst Saturday must have been one of the coldest starts to the month of June, Sunday morning produced a glorious summer’s day which made a pleasant occasion all the more pleasant. Our captain, Duncan Hughes, introduced our guests who went on to perform the honour of “wetting” the boats; Angie King to name the eight “The Lady Angela” for Dave King in the tradition the club has maintained for the naming of eights, and our special guest Dame Mary Hogg to name our new women’s coxless pair “Mary Hogg”. As well as being a direct descendant of the club’s founder, Dame Mary is one of the trustees of the Quintin Hogg Trust and has been very helpful in promoting the redevelopment of the boathouse. After the formalities, drinks and sandwiches were served both outside and in the clubroom.
