Learn to Row Information

Objectives

This course will prepare you to scull safely and confidently in a crew and is structured to allow you to join the Quintin Boat Club smoothly upon its successful completion.

The course will focus rigorously on proper sculling technique and will include a mix of on-the-water and land training sessions to achieve this aim. All participants will build a solid foundation on which they can progress toward becoming a confident recreational rower or toward earning a spot in one of our club’s racing crews.

Our goal is to get you on the water as soon as safely possible! Participants will scull on our beautiful stretch of the Thames in quads (four people to a boat, two blades/oars each).

Coaches

Ken is a British Rowing qualified coach and  started rowing as a junior in Seattle in 1986.  Ken was the Captain of both his junior and University team where he won numerous championships.  Ken now focuses on coaching and racing on the Thames Tideway and beyond.

Simon Hunt brings head coaching experience from numerous clubs.  Simon has coached Masters at three different clubs on the Tideway.  While coaching, Simon is also an active racer, competing in his single, eights and all boat classes in between.

Jackie has been on the water since 1992 as a competitor taking part in Internationals, Commonwealth, World Cups and was in the qualifying squad for the Olympics. She now coaches novices to competition level and racing crews.
